Trailer Trash MASH, LOL Edition: The Informant & Couples Retreat
By
Usually for the Trailer Trash MASH posts I try to find contrasting genres in order to bring you the greatest variety of upcoming trailers. In order to consolidate content, as well being a slow trailer week, here is a couple comedies with the LOL edition. The first looks to be the funniest of the two. It’s Matt Damon teaming up with brilliant, Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s 11, 12, 13) in this clueless comedy based on a true story. The government decides to go after an agree-business giant with a price-fixing accusation, based on the evidence submitted by their star witness, vice president turned informant Mark Whitacre (Matt Damon).
It looks frickin’ great and Damon looks absolutely hysterical with his nerdy haircut, glasses and mustache. The film also boasts a really cool supporting comedic cast including: the hilarious Joel McHale from The Soup on E!, the awesome Tony Hale who you might have fallen in love with as Buster Bluth from Arrested Development and the great Scott Bakula from one of the coolest and most-underrated shows ever, Quantum Leap. The film’s screenwriter, Scott Z. Burns, wrote a another pretty good movie that starred Damon that you may know, The Bourne Ultimatum (wink, get it? Cuz everyone has seen and loves that film). This is going to be a really great comedy and I’m super pumped for it. Check out the trailer, courtesy of FirstShowing. The Informant opens everywhere October 9.
The next movie doesn’t look nearly as original or quirky, but seems to have some classic potential. The film is called Couples Retreat and has a fantastic ensemble cast for a comedy. It stars Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell and Faizon Love, as assorted couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others fail to realize that participation in the resort’s therapy sessions is not optional.
As I alluded to before, it seems like a pretty formulaic raunchy comedy full of adult sex jokes and awkwardness, but I’ll for sure give it a shot because with this cast, it has to be good. And it was also written by Favreau, which also means, it has to be good. The only problem with this movie is that it opens on the same day as The Informant, October 9. I think I hear a double feature calling my name? Check out the trailer for Couples Retreat below.
