Trailer Trash MASH: Inglorious Basterds & The Last Airbender

By Barrett Goetz

Bender Basterds

The summer movie season has been in full-swing for almost two months now and as July approaches, studios are going to start pumping out the trailers for their fall releases and some teasers for their 2010 releases. Today we’ve got a couple new ones from two “name-brand” directors. The first is the second official trailer from Quentin Tarantino’s WWII epic, Inglorious Basterds. The film premiered at Cannes in France a couple months ago and received mixed reviews. Many people thought that the film is TOO dialogue-based, with not enough action. Others praised Tarantino’s focus on the characters interactions, rather than just blowing stuff up for the sake of blowing stuff up.

The film was co-financed by Universal Pictures and  The Weinstein Company. There were reports that the killer of dreams, Harvey Weinstein, was unhappy with the reaction that Basterds received, (as most of Tarantino’s films are seen as genius) and made Tarantino cut over 40 minutes of footage from the original cut of of the film. These reports were never confirmed. But the original cut that premiered at Cannes was 2 hours 40 minutes. So if it is less than that when the film is released, we will know Tarantino had his hand forced. I don’t know what the big deal is, as Tarantino’s films are rarely under two hours and any movie involving WWII is usually long anyway. Whatever. FUCK HARVEY WEINSTEIN! This second trailer looks fucking kick-ass and I can’t wait until Inglorious Basterds opens worldwide on August 21st. Check it.

Our second “name-brand” director is Mr. M. Night Shymalan. I just wrote a post a few days ago talking about how M. Night told MTV that he is interested in doing a sequel to Unbreakable. Before he can do that, he’s going to be in the editing room for a while, putting together his next film The Last Airbender. The film is an adaptation of the recent Nickelodeon animated series called Avatar: The Last Airbender. Producers of the film chose to drop the first word in in their title, in order to avoid confusion with James Cameron’s Avatar, opening in December of this year.

The story of The Last Airbender follows the adventures of Aang, a ten year old successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations. The film’s villain Zuko, is being played by an up-and-comer that you may have seen in a little film called Slumdog Millionaire, Dev Pattel. Check him out as Zuko HERE. M. Night has been pumping out some real shit over the last couple years, which you can read about in great detail in the link I provided to my previous post above. This teaser is very intriguing and looks like it could be a really cool fantasy-adventure. The Last Airbender opens everywhere next July. Check it.

What Do You Think? Discuss.

Entourage creates an excellent character to portray the ass that is Weinstein. I saw the teaser for Airbender last night, and god I pray it is good. The forces sent to capture this one boy is unreal, and I hope Shammy doesn't F this one up.
  • I think Inglorious Basterds looks great. and i am with you...Harvey Weinfuck is a movie-ruining ass. He chopped and delayed Fanboys, and now is taking out 40 minutes of this. fuck that. if this movie is bad, i can blame him for tampering with it
