Terminator Director McG Calls Off Feud With Michael Bay
By
In case you have no idea what I’m talking about, Terminator Salvation director McG (NBC’s Chuck & Charlie’s Angels) and Transformers director Michael Bay, have been in a hilarious feud over the past couple months over whose robots are badder-ass. I’ll give you a recap, but you’d better buckle in, this might take a bit. Back in January, Michael Bay posted a comment on his website forum where he took a swing at McG’s Terminator robots saying:
“We’ve seen the great year end movies, and watched the upcoming clips of the upcoming summer fare. We’ve seen certain movies coming out even try to duplicate Transformer size robots in their ads. Please, come on.”
Bay is of course referring to the massive, giant Terminator machines called Harvesters. These machines can bee seen in the trailers and TV spots for TS. The term “Harvester” implies, and from the footage we’ve seen, that they gather humans and “harvest” them for power and energy purposes; sort of like batteries (Matrix?). This is a direct challenge of course, patronizing McG’s Terminator robots to Bay’s rob0ts in his upcoming blockbuster Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen. Needless to say McG was not pleased with this and responded, via Comcast Entertainment:
“It bothers me to tell you the truth. Ultimately, our large robots have nothing to do with the Transformers robots,” McG said. “I say with respect, giant robots have been the theme of film for a real long time. So we want to do everything we can to create separation. Our film’s about T-800s and the Marcus character and the Connor character, and this, that, and the other. So, to have people have a problem with that wouldn’t be working for us so we want to make sure there’s separation.”
Bay’s response to this?
“I would love to see my robots take on Terminators…”
He did actually continue to say that he was “excited to see Terminator and loves Bale’s work.” But this is when things take a weird and awesome turn. Now you’d think the main thing involved between these to directors during this fight would be their egos. The two egos of two big director’s whose two movies that each feature massive robots, are obviously box-office competition this summer. But in the April issue of Details Magazine, McG wanted to compare something else with Bay….his cock. No seriously I’m not kidding:
“Michael Bay has a big cock, but I’d like to believe mine is bigger. If he’s up for it, we can both reveal ourselves on the Spartacus steps at Universal and put the question to rest.”
So that’s some interesting fodder for the entertainment community to use for hyping purposes, on top of Christian Bale’s on-set rant that exploded on the internet a couple months ago. But it was all for not. Ahhhhhhhh shucks. Last week McG told E! that he was actually talking about the budget all along and that he was trying to be “ironic.” He also provided some personal information about his “budget”:
“That was lost immediately and people gravitated to two spoiled brat directors think they have big cocks,” McG said. Nothing could be further from the truth.
“The funny thing is, I have an Irish curse and I think we’re all familiar with exactly how [I'm endowed].”
Well, Terminator Salvation opens everywhere May 21st and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opens a month later on June 24th. So we’ll see if the feud works in terms of ticket sales. I love it! Especially since I have the sneaking suspicion that this was all an elaborate prank between McG and Bay to gain some publicity for the studios and energize the Terminator and Transformer fan-bases respectively. I’m more excited for Terminator, but I’m still super jacked for Transformers as well. Very calculated and well done McG & Bay. Very 2008 election-style.
