Ben Stiller Discusses the Long-Awaited Zoolander 2

“Happy…happy….happy….hahahahahaahaaaa….hahhahahahaaah….”

Stiller better tread softly on this one, as this could be unbelievably epic or unbelievably horrendous.  One of the most beloved and hilarious cult comedies  EVER MADE is getting a sequel. Zoolander came out almost a decade ago in 2001, sort of a long wait for a comedy sequel. However, Zoolander is an acquired taste. I know many people who hated it the first time they saw it, but then watched it again with friends once it came out on DVD and now they know every line verbatim. It’s so irreverent and quirky that it takes time to grow on some people. NOT ME! I laughed my ass off in the theater 8 years ago and the 20,000 other times I’ve seen it since then.

Ben Stiller sat down with the UK’s Screen Rush during his worldwide publicity blitz for Night at the Museum 2 opening up on Friday and he revealed some tidbits on the potential Zoolander 2. Stiller said that he’d been working on a script “over the years” and seemed to be spit-balling ideas saying:

“It would take place 10 years later and Derek’s son, Derek Jr. would be grown up, or almost 10 years old. Then Derek would be dealing with no longer being a model, maybe he has a modeling school or something. He’d be like an older wizzin model, with lots of grey and maybe even a grey beard.”

In response to the reporter, Stiller said that Owen Wilson would definitely have to return as his arch-nemesis, turned BFF Hansel. “It’s that damn Hansel, he’s so hot right now!” I would absolutely want to see Will Ferrell back as the eractically hysterical fashion king-pin Mugatu. I honestly think that Mugatu is Ferrell’s funniest performance ever. “Doesn’t anyone notice this? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills!!!” Sorry for the random quotes throughout this post, but that’s the beauty of Zoolander, it’s one of those comedies that you still quote 10 years later.

A buddy of mine, Chris Rindy, started a random Facebook group called “Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can’t Read Good… and Want To Learn To Do Other Stuff Good, Too” group. He just loves this movie and started it randomly four years ago, just for people who love Zoolander to write their favorite quotes. It has almost 3,000 members and that’s only because it is exclusively for the University of Minnesota network. GO GOPHS! Check it out HERE.

(Raising glass) so here’s to hoping that Ben Stiller can find the right story and bring back the right people who made Zoolander the legend comedy that it was (is), to make an even more classic sequel.

Man, i love Zoolander but im not so sure it needs a sequel. its such a funny movie but i dont see a need to ruin its cult legacy. i dont see a storyline that could be as good or better since it has been so long. but maybe itll be good. i like ben stiller and whatever he does is great so we'll see.

I would be absolutely stoked to see a Zoolander 2. Bringing Stiller and Ferrell back together again would no doubt produce some laughs. I suppose we will have to see what developments take place over the coming months.

could be a disaster….probably would be a disaster….ferrell isnt what he was and the truth is that nothing will live up to the original. Hope it happens and its good, but chances are probably real low.

I think they may have waited too long for this sequel but I still have hope that they will do a good job with it. Ferrel and Stiller are wicked funny, I would see it regardless.
