Sick Nasty! JGL Replaces James Franco in “Inception”
ByI posted an article several weeks ago about the upcoming movie G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra and the reason I am most excited for it is that Cobra Commander is being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The guy is 28 years-old and is one of the best actors of his generation. However, people are generally not aware of his great acting ability because of his tendency to choose indie flicks. Anyone who knows me (Moosh & Matt_Damon), knows that I’ve been a huge advocate for JGL, claiming that he is going to finally blow up in the next couple years . Now, the best news that could have possibly emerged regarding JGL and casting has happened: The Hollywood Reporter breaks that Christopher Nolan has cast him in his upcoming Sci-Fi thriller Inception.
I’ve cautioned Movie Mash readers that I would be having more than usual in-depth coverage and analysis of this film, being my most anticipated of 2010. The Dark Knight is my favorite film of all time and Christopher Nolan is my favorite director, so any film he does is automatically catapulted to the top of my must-see list. Inception already has an unbelievable cast with: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine. With the addition of JGL, my anticipation level has officially been launched into the stratosphere. Being Nolan’s intermission project between TDK and Batman 3, the inspired casting and potential epicness of this plot could not be better. Due to Nolan’s trademark complex and twisted scripts, the plot is being kept extremely secretive. So far, it’s being described as a “Sci-Fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.”
JGL will play an associate of DiCaprio’s character, a CEO-type. Marion Cotillard is playing DiCaprio’s wife, while Ellen Page is playing a grad student and DiCaprio’s sidekick. The original actor cast in JGL’s role was James Franco, but due to scheduling conflicts with the Pineapple Express sequel, Your Highness with Danny McBride, Franco had to back out. While Franco is a great actor, I believe this to be the best possible casting scenario anyway. If you are not quite sold on JGL, please see Brick and The Lookout; two fantastic indie thrillers that showcase JGL’s truely unknown talent.
Having said this, all I ask is for you to be on “the lookout” for JGL in 2009 and 2010. He is going to be an A-list movie star very soon, and you heard it here, FIRST, on The Movie Mash. Stay tuned for updates.
