Keep Your Eyes Peeled For “Mystery Team”

By

This might be old news to some of you, but I didn’t have this site when this happened, so whatever. I’m sure some of you are aware of Derrick Comedy. If not, you are missing out. For those who don’t, Derrick Comedy is a sketch comedy group comprised of five friends Dan, Dominic, DC, Donald and Meggie, all but one of whom attended NYU Film School. They have since become a YouTube sensation with their hilarious sketch comedy videos. The most famous of which probably being Bro Rape that came out a couple years ago.

Now the comedy troupe could potentially hit the wide release big-screen with their first feature-length movie, Mystery Team. The movie is about a group of former Encyclopedia Brown-type child-detectives who have yet to grow up and are still solving stupid crimes during senior year of High School. The film made it’s limited big-screen debut at Sundance Film Festival this past January and received glowing reviews from almost every credible movie website and blog. It also had two other small premieres in New York and L.A. shortly after. There is no word yet on whether the movie got picked up by a studio at Sundance, but with it’s refreshingly irreverent comedic-style, I have a feeling that Mystery Team could be picked up by Fox Searchlight or Paramount Vantage, then distributed in limited release. At least that way we could see it at the Uptown theater or at the Lagoon, then it would for sure be released on DVD. Fingers crossed! Either way, keep your eyes peeled for the members of Derrick Comedy. I think they’re going to hit the comedy world very hard, very soon. Mic check 1, 2 the hilarious trailer for Mystery Team below.

Jiz, Mue and Matt Clark… haha

I think it is awesome that these guys are making it to the big screen. Who would have thought that YouTube would get you somewhere in life. It's remarkable how technology has evolved over the past 20 years. I'd probably see this movie for sure if it makes it to the big screen. It'll be interesting to see where these guys will be in ten years. Hopefully the keep it going.
